Last year, Ugandan photographer Papa Shabani completed an Artist-In-Residence tenure at Kuona Trust Art Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. During his time in Nairobi, he interacted with, and photographed, elders of the unrecognised Nubian community. He aimed to say tell their story through this photographic exhibition.

The Nubians have a long history with the land, and have had a period where they ruled. But today, they are quite invisible! Papa Shabani, with his portrait exhibition and interviews with the elders, retells Nubian history, and does his bit to make this esteemed tribe visible again.

The photography project, is still in session, and is anticipated to run from 2015 to 2020.
