Gordon Parks paved the way for a lot of African-Americans in the areas of photography and film. He was the first African-American to work at LIFE magazine and to direct a feature length movie, the popular Shaft.

His most famous work though, may arguably be this photographic series he did for LIFE, titled Segregation Story. You must have seen a few of these images around the web, but didn’t know who created them. These images were shot in 1956 in Alabama, USA. They are powerful.
