Are We Good Enough by Lakin Ogunbanwo

Nigerian photographer, Lakin Ogunbanwo, talks about identity through this images. His latest body of work is titled ‘we must not be looking‘ and is focused on how South Africans see identity through the colour of the skin, and in particular, ‘coloured people’. But our favourite series from him is still his 2015 ‘are we good enough‘.

In this series, Lakin talks about identity through the traditional hats men wear. You would notice from his general works that even though he focuses on identity, he generally does not show the facial identity of his subjects. Instead, he uses other things and features to showcase it. In this case, it’s these unique traditional hats that can tell anyone who knows where you are from and that you are proud of where you come from.
